RE:Blog #6: Logo Parodies That Speak the Truth.

1. Describe the logo using the language of the Elements and Principles of Design.

This logo represents all Elements and Principles of Design. The picture shows many different lines, shapes, size, and colour. This picture shows line because it probably used a pen tool for the green and yellow part at the back of the garbage can. It uses shape because in this picture there is many different shapes that are being used. There are rhombus, diamond, circle, and many more shapes. The rhombus are the garbage can. The diamond shape is the green and yellow part. The last shape is the circle which is the the earth. For sizes there are different sizes between the yellow and green part. as the yellow is branching out it gets bigger and bigger. For the colour there is a contrast between the yellow and green and the black and white. I think that yellow and green stands for nature is trying to bloom, but since the earth is in an oil spill the earth is becoming a waste.   

2. Describe the symbols used in the logo. Why did the graphic artist use such imagery?

The main symbol that the artist is trying to express is the earth in the garbage can. I think that the earth and the garbage can is the main symbol because that was the first thing that caught my attention.  The earth is black and white representing darkness because the oil spill has threaten many animals lives.  At the bottom of the earth it shows that there is some sort of liquid dripping down. That liquid is oil, i think the artist is trying to tell us is that there is a major oil spill and our rivers and oceans does not have enough space to hold it anymore so its leaking out of the earth. The liquid could also mean that some people are trying to make a difference and trying to clean out  the water so a bit of liquid is coming out of the earth and into the garbage can. 

3. What does this logo say of BP's coroporate identity?

The logo saying that bp is not helping the world. Its basically throwing oil into the rivers and oceans. When oil enters the water it contaminates it and makes the animals either sick or die from the oil. The garbage can represents that they are throw the earth away like what they did with the oil.

RE: Blog Entry #5: Digital Actors

1.      Is this acting or is this animation?

In the making of Avatar, the motion picture is acting by actors and than transforming them through digital software to make them look blue. I believe this film is an acting film instead of animation film because if there was no motion of the characters then you will just have people standing there or not even appear at all. The characters motion made the movie more interesting.  Without acting in the movie there would be no dialog or any way to communicate with the audience what is going on in the movie.

2.       Do you think that animated character should be eligible for acting awards?

I do not think that animated characters should be eligible for acting awards because they are not really doing anything for that award. Animated character means that it’s a digital image of something which means that it’s not real. The actors would have had to make the animated characters come alive by showing expression and emotion. I think the actors did a really good job playing their role and they should be recognized for it.

3.       Do you think that human actors will ever become obsolete? Why or why not?

It is sad to say that I am pretty sure that the human actors will become obsolete. I think that the actors will become obsolete because technology is growing day by day. Sooner or later we don’t need human actors to act the parts anymore. Most of the movies we will watch in the future would be computer generated.

RE:Blog Entry #4: From Spray Can to light: Graffiti Revisited.

Street Graffiti

This Street Graffiti uses line, shape, balance, and dominance from the Elements and Principles of Design. This graffiti uses line because it uses linear lines in the image. The graffiti shows shape by the rectangles. The rectangle represents stairs.  The image also shows balance by creating an illusion with the thickness of the lines.  Lastly it shows dominance because this painting shows interest. It confuses your eyes into believing that it’s a real 3D stairs.

Light Graffiti

The light graffiti that I searched online didn’t really give me any interests. The one that I only like is the light graffiti I did.  The light graffiti I did was show casing Adrenalyn.  My picture shows contrast, colour and value. My picture shows contrast because it has different colours that are on the colour wheel, blue and green. My graffiti also shows value because it shows darkness in the background also called tone. I also have a hint of light at the top of the fingers.

Compare

Street Graffiti and Light Graffiti have some differences and similarities. Street Graffiti uses  the traditional spray paint as a paint brush. Many of these graffiti is found on trucks, walls, tunnels, etc.  In Street Graffiti people usually use words to describe themselves. People usually get caught by police officers because some Street Graffiti is vandalism. Vandalism is when you intentionally deface something that is not yours. In Light Graffiti, instead of using spray paint they use light and a camera. Light Graffiti is pretty popular because you aren’t vandalizing anything, it’s just light. People usually use Light Graffiti for ads and commercials.  The differences between light graffiti and street graffiti would be one uses light to paint and the other uses spray paint to create an image. The similarities would be they both are a form of graffiti, uses the Elements and Principles of Design, and both a form of Hip Hop.    

RE:Blog Entry #3: Mashups and Copyright Law

1. What is this mashup trying to communicate? Is it technical experiment, social or political commentary, a comedic parody, or an abstract work of media art?

The mashup I listen to was the “A Fair(y) Use Tale”.  I think that this is an example of comedic parody and abstract work of media. I think that it’s a comedic parody because the creator of this video took specific words from each Disney movie and created a mashup. This is a form of legal copyright because the author of this video got his videos from the a public channel/site to use.   

2. Did its creator follow or break copyright laws in its production?

The creator followed the copyright laws in its production because he did not steal the movie clips from Disney. Instead he/she got the videos in a public environment, so the author would not be able to get in trouble from Disney.

  
3. Do you think that mashup like this requires copyright permission? Why or why not.

For me personally I think that mashup like the “A Fairy Use Tale” should not require any copyright permission because the author is making a educational video to show to other students about Mashup media. The only thing I think would require copyright permission is if a movie copies another movies idea or quotes. I think this would require copyright permission because movies take a really long time to make and so you taking another person’s work and making it your own.

Re: A Look At Music Videos

Initial reaction: It has been a long time when I first watched this video.

       When I first watched it though, it was Remembrance Day. This song and music video made me think of what would have happened if the soldiers did not fight for freedom. In the video there is this little girl’s dad that did not want to stop for 2 minutes because he did not care. While everyone stopped he kept on walking and making noise. When I saw that I felt really angry because those Canadians lost their lives to make our country free, and he disrespecting that. When the video was ending, it showed some of the soldiers that are walking by. That made the father think that it was those people who made our freedom happen. So in the end he finally stopped and what he was doing and waited.     

Analysis and interpretation
       
        I think that the musicians created this video to show awareness to the society that some people still actually do what that dad did in the video. They want to leave them a message saying that they fought so hard to make our country free, and most of them lost their lives. So what we can do is just give two minutes of our time to honor those people. The theme that is promoted in this video would be Remembrance Day.  

Consideration of cultural context

        The event that may have influenced this musician is that he might have seen people did what the Dad did in the video before. So he wanted to raise awareness to everyone out there, telling them that it is just two minutes that you’re sacrificing but the soldiers had to sacrifice their lives.  What events may have influenced the musician, musical group, and director to create this music video?
Expression of aesthetic judgment

        The cinematography, acting and performance, storyline, special effects, lyrics, and musicality work together in the music video because they all fit together. What I mean is that there is a story in the video is really simple to understand. It’s about a dad that doesn’t really care about the soldiers until he realized what they did for him. The lyric to the song is really meaningful and true to.

Ongoing reflection:
        This music video is one of my top favorite videos of all time. This music video tells a meaningful story that is easy to understand and relate to. Very little songs have these very well written lyrics. I hope that everyone would enjoy this song as much as I did.  

RE:Art Imitating Media Imitating Life.

There are many different types of ways that I protect my privacy on social networking sites, such as Facebook. Many of which is not to give out any person data out or accepting people that you don’t know to your buddies list. These are really good ways to protect yourself because no one could be able to stalk you. Also another good way is to not put your picture on those sites. Although many people do it (so do I) would be better off not to because if you want to keep yourself off the Internet. I post pictures on Facebook because it’s a great way for my relatives from other countries see how much I have grown since the last time they saw me.

It is important for us to protect our information from uninvited eyes and advertisers because of identity thefts. These people try to find people that put out to much information and create fake identities and sell them to other people. Also it’s important for us to keep our information so that you won’t get spammed with mail or get stalked by another person. Many people get hurt because of cyber stalking.
